According to the linguist Bracchi, Oga derives its name from its location on the western slope – “(pars) opica” – of the valley. The meaning of “lumber channel”, a timber conduit leading to Oga seems to have been abandoned. The “Ogolini” preferred the derivation from the place name “Oga” a dialectal form of “àigula” (eagle), due to the fact that it is perched on the terrace overlooking the whole cradle of the slope called, “Magnifica Terra” (Wonderful Land).
